In Economics there is a satisfactory supply both of modern studies and of journals. This is the least unsatisfactory branch of the Library, though a good deal is needed in Politics. (especial modern American and European studies).

There is an indifferent library in standard French literature in Portuguese wherein there ▲ should be an attempt at much greater completeness in view of the local importance of the language and of Portuguese studies generally. modern languages the Library is weak. Geography is only now finding its way into the Far East. What books and maps we have are relatively modern but here again expansion is of great importance, especially in the literature of regional surveys.

In other Modern

Education

In Psychology and in the literature of the Library is not very extensive but it is good so far as it goes. The supply of books on Eastern Philosophy India and Buddhistis better than on Western., but again there is a lack of journals.

3 Science Libraries. Libraries in Physics, Chemistry,

Botany and Zoology have all the standard journals in English, French and German, and can, I think, be regarded as satisfactory. Efforts will have to be made to accumulate issues of journals from late 1941 to the present time.

4 medical Libraries.

The Medical Libraries are well supplied with journals. The war period issues are now being collected and, generally speak ing, the position may be regarded as satisfactory.

Engineering.

Again journals form the backbone but

there is a good supply of modern reference books.

The Hankow Library is a collection of modern books in French and English on China, Chinese history, antiquities and art. We believe it to be more complete within
